Christmas is in the air!

Tomorrow, Monday, December 14th, I am planning on getting the student pictures by the Christmas tree. I wanted to do it last week, but we had quite a few kids absent. Hopefully everyone will be healthy and in school tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that the students are allowed to bring in any Santa hats, reindeer headbands or any other Christmas gear they may have so that our picture turns out festive.

Also, be on the look out. Students wrote letters to Santa and they were sent to the North Pole. Every student's letter had their address on it, so you should be getting a special letter back from the "big guy!"

Don't forget, the Christmas party is scheduled for next Monday, December 21st at 1pm. All students should bring in an activity book with colored pencils, crayons or markers for the party. Please make sure this gifts are wrapped. Thanks so much!

OH MY!

Parents beware!  Students have started cursive today.  You could've heard a pin drop when I was instructing them how to form the correct cursive l.  Please do not allow your child to write in cursive until all the letters have been taught.  All students will be working towards earning their Cursive License.  These will be distributed after all letters have been taught.  They are sooooo excited!!

New Scoop and Spelling Words

Here is the latest Scoop

I have also included the new spelling words in the Look, Say, Spell, Cover, Write, Check form. This is a great way for students to practice their words. All you need is a manila folder cut into thirds, like the example...
Or you can simply use a sheet of paper to cover up the words as the students write them. Your child has practiced how to do this and will know what to do when they see the paper. Thanks for your cooperation!

Friendly Gym Shoe Reminder

Mrs. Crum informed me that we have a problem of remembering to wear gym shoes to gym. Please remember that we have gym on Fridays and to please make sure your child has tennis shoes. With winter coming and boot season here, Mrs. Crum said she will not allow students to participate in gym activities with boots. (They make the floor too slippery.)

I spoke with the second graders about their responsibility to remember their gym shoes, but wanted to relay the message to you as well. Thanks for your help!!

**Also, with boot season here. Students are more than welcome to leave a pair of slippers here at school to wear in the classroom. **

Updates

We are doing quite a few charity donations at school right now. We have the mitten tree, Toys for Tots and the canned food drive. All of these will end next Thursday, December 10th.

We have Santaland on Monday, December 7th from 12:15-12:45.

We still have some tags left on our giving tree. If you are able and you would like your child to pick a tag, I need a signed note with the amount you would prefer to spend. Thanks for your help and cooperation! All gifts need to be delivered to the class by December 14th so they can reach their destination by Christmas.

We have one more book order for the year. If you wish to order books, I need them turned in no later than Monday, December 7th. I will be ordering them on Monday to ensure delivery before Christmas break. If you want your gifts to be a surprise or if they are Christmas gifts, please let me know and I will notify you when they arrive.

Lastly, on the calendar, I wrote the Christmas party will begin at 1:30, we will instead begin at 1pm on Monday, December 21st.

Letters to Noah

A few weeks ago we learned about a boy living in South Lyon who had terminal cancer. He wanted to receive Christmas cards because Christmas is his favorite holiday. I asked the students if they would want to help Noah out and they all were ecstatic. Here are some pictures of the students making this poor boy's wish come true!

Hat Day!

Oops! I almost forgot, tomorrow is hat day. $1 donation will go towards Santaland.

The students have already made one of their gifts for you this past week. If you have not done so already, please send in $6 for your child's special gift that they have made for you by Monday, November 30th! Thanks so much!!
