Just Wanted You to Know

I will be out of town tomorrow and Thursday for my brother's graduation.  I am going down to Florida to surprise him.  The students will be having a friend of the family for the two days I will be gone.  The kids will be in good hands.  :0) 

Please do not worry about dialogue journals the next 2 days, as I won't be here to write them back.  Just plan on turning them in next week. 

We will be planning an upcoming Publishing Party.  I am thinking possibly the first week in May sometime, so please be on the look out for an invitation to be coming home next week. 

Also, please make sure your child has turned in a t-shirt by next week.  We will be tie-dying on Friday, April 29th.  If you would be able to help out with this, please let me know.  We will be doing tie-dying instead of Friday Fun. 

I will be checking my email while I'm gone, so if you have any questions or concerns, as always, please let me know!  Have a Happy Easter!!

More Math Practice

We will be using a new computer game for Friday Fun in a few weeks.  I showed the kids how to play, but it is a little complex.  Please review the game with them a few times at home.  They should practice the 10s, but after that, they can have fun with whatever sum they would like.  Have fun!!

A Couple Things...

We worked on rounding numbers yesterday and some kids had some difficulty with the concept.  I played a few of these online games with the kids to help them.  I would really like each kid to log on to whichever website they liked best and play the rounding games for more practice over break.  A few times will definitely help.  We are right now focusing on rounding to the tens. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Also, due to wrapping up the card marking, I didn't get a chance to do any word sorts or play and word work games with the kids.  As a result, we will have the same words the week we get back.  I will upload them onto spelling city as well.  I couldn't get on to the website last Friday and the week slipped away from me!

Good Laugh

We worked on word choice and choosing words that made us laugh. To get us started I showed the kids this video. It has been a huge hit! Enjoy!! My fave is the third guy. He cracks me up EVERY time!

Travel Poster Homework

You will be creating your own travel poster for a country of your choice. Use a poster board.

Remember you are trying to persuade people to travel to this country.
On your travel poster, you will need to have 5 interesting facts and 5 pictures.
You will also need to have a map of the country, tell which continent you would find it, the oceans that surround the country and the capital city is labeled. This may be drawn or copied.The poster should be colorful and have correct spelling.You will present your travel poster to the class.

Please glue rubric to the back of your poster.

State Paragraph Homework and Slurpees?

Your child researched one of the 50 states. They had to find the state’s capital, flower, tree and bird, as well as a fact that your child chose. Their next homework assignment is to take those facts that they learned to write an informational paragraph. The paragraph needs to include a topic sentence, a sentence for each fact your child discovered and a closing sentence. This writing piece needs to include two pictures of the state symbols (these can be student drawn or printed out from your computer) in their final piece with a caption to describe it. You can use the attached sheet to have your child write it, or you can type it on the computer-whatever your child prefers. Please have the completed paragraph turned in by Monday, March 14th. Thanks so much.
