LOVE Project Homework Update

This note will be coming home on Monday, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

The L.O.V.E. Project that was sent home on Monday can seem very overwhelming to both the students and the parents. We really want the students to take time and really think of nice things to say about their classmates. We don’t want vague comments like Suzy is nice. We want sentences that state why Suzy is nice. For example, Suzy is a nice friend because she plays with me at recess. OR Suzy is a good person. She helps me with my work when I need help. Please help your child come up with some very thoughtful messages.

With that being said, we have decided to hold off on a homework packet for next week. Please use the time to make the L.O.V.E. Project special and meaningful. The due date of this project is Monday, February 6^th. Thanks!!

WOW! Time Flies!

Well, it's hard to believe, but the 2 months home with little Miss Emily have flown by for me. I will be returning to work next Wednesday. This is very bittersweet for me. I miss my other 25 boys and girls, but I know that I am going to miss my little peanut, too! I know it will be an adjustment, but I know after a few days, we'll all be back in the routine and swing of things again.

I wanted to thank you all for your understanding and support throughout my time off. It has been a long road to bringing Emily home and I enjoyed every minute with her...well, not the screaming minutes! :0) just kidding!

I wanted you to know that Miss Doyle will be sending home book orders tomorrow, so the website is already set. I don't have the info to log in here at home, but look out for the note coming home tomorrow.

Report cards will be coming home on Tuesday, so please be sure to look out for them in your child's STAR folder.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

Switzer has taken on a whole school challenge.  We are trying to collect cell phones for soldiers.  These cell phones will not be used by the soldiers.  They will, however, be recycled and the money goes to buy  calling cards so soldiers overseas can talk to loved ones back home.  This is the perfect time of year for this!

Cell phones do not have to work, in fact, they shouldn't be in working condition!  You can throw in the chargers, too!  On top of that old pagers are accepted, as well!   So ask your neighbors, ask your family members, ask the people at work.  Everyone has an old cell phone lying around somewhere!  When you collect them, simply have your child bring them to school and they will go into our classroom box. 

The contest will run from Nov. 14- Jan. 13th.  Please help us out!  If we collect 1,000 phones as a school, we will win a school-wide pizza party.  If we don't make that number as a school, the top classroom will be the winner of the pizza party.

Duh!

Thank you to everyone who is volunteering to help on TUESDAY, October 25th for pumpkin math.  In the note that went home, I had Tuesday, October 26th as the date.  I apologize for any confusion. 

Also, we have our Red Ribbon spirit week next week.  Don't forget to have your child wear:
Monday- sweats or warmups for "Walking Out On Drugs Is NO Sweat!"
Tuesday- favorite hat for "Put a CAP on Drugs!"
Wednesday- crazy hair day for "Use Your Head, Don't Do Drugs"
Thursday- wear clothes backwards for "Turn Your Back on Drugs"
Friday- wear something red for and bring in a canned or boxed food item for "I Can, You Can, We Can Be Drug FREE!"

Class Reward

Congratulations to our class.  They have achieved in filling our jar of marbles.  The students have decided to have a “Read In.”  This will take place tomorrow, Friday, October 21st.  Please have your child bring in a sleeping bag, and/or pillow and any favorite books from home.  We will move all the tables aside and lay out the sleeping bags and pillows while everyone enjoys an afternoon of reading.  The students would also like to have a pajama day that day also, so please have your child dress in pj’s to show their class spirit!
