States and Capitals

Students will be tested on the bonus prize of doing all fifty states and capitals this week.  This is for fun and is not mandatory, but will earn the students an extra "prize."  Here is the list.  Some students brought home lists with circled states and capitals that they missed.  They will be tested this week to see if they earn their pizza portion.

Few Things...

I just wanted to remind you about a couple of things coming up.  We are having the Fun Run on Friday, May 10th.  Please make sure you have turned in your child's permission slip.  Students will not be allowed to run or participate without a signed permission slip.  I believe the form is on the Switzer PTO website. 

Volunteers who are attending the movie on Thursday, May 16th need to please return the RSVP slip so Mrs. Ries can total up all her goodie bags and make the final preparations. 

If you have not emailed me a photo of Mom and student, you have until Monday, May 6th.  The projects will be wrapping up on Tuesday to be delivered to our Moms on Mother's Day. 

Also, I plan to purchase the flowers the week after Mother's Day.  Prices are usually a little lower AND hopefully the good weather is here to stay.  If you haven't yet turned in your $1 donation, I can still accept them.

Word Sorts

Word Sort Example

I've used B3 as the example for the week.  Their concept is ur, ure and ur_e words that all have the same sound.  Here is a picture of the headers for the group:

Students will put their headers at the top, with the rest of the words below spread out so students can read them.

In most cases, students will have an example word that shows the students an example of that pattern.

This is where some help is needed.  Someone needs to read a word to the student that is in the bottom group.  The student will locate the word, then place the word where it belongs based on it's sound and pattern.  For example, if the word BLURT were read, it would go under the UR pattern.  The words PURR and WERE would go into the oddball column.
